We launch
well beyond the coastal mist belt or
if weather permit, behind the dune
belt.
It's cold in the
desert so you need a warm jacket and
a hat or cap.
Your pilot/host, Lowe Potgieter,
has over 30 years flying experience
and 12 years of ballooning in
Swakopmund. The crew make the unloading
and preparing of the balloon for the
flight look like child's play under
the watchful eye of Lowe.
A short briefing gets
everyone up to date on what to
expect, how to react and what to do
on take off and landings.
Slowly the balloon rises to its
magnificent and tall stature, and
you
are ready for take off. Time
to climb aboard, with help and
directions by Lowe and crew.
The burners roar and before you
know, you are airborne. The
world slowly slips away and you are
carried off by the wind. No words
can describe the feeling, you just
have to experience it yourself.
All too soon it's time to land, and
back on terra firma you are whisked
away by your host for a champagne
breakfast in the sunshine, reliving
the experience of man's first form
of flight. |
